ROPA Method in Cancún — Shared Motherhood IVF
Both share the miracle of motherhood with European technology
The ROPA Method (Reception of Oocytes from Partner) is the exclusive IVF treatment that allows both members of a female couple to take part biologically in the creation of their baby. In this process, one of you provides her eggs (biological mother), which are fertilized in our state-of-the-art laboratory and transferred to the uterus of the other (gestational mother). At FertilyMed we are proud to be an LGBTQ+-inclusive fertility clinic in Cancún, offering a safe, warm environment with transparent packages between 50% and 60% less expensive than in the USA, backed by a fully transparent legal framework.

How the ROPA Method works step by step
Decide roles together
The first step is to define the medical roles by mutual agreement: who will be the biological mother (providing eggs) and who the gestational mother (carrying the pregnancy). Our specialists assess the age and ovarian reserve of both to suggest the strategy with the highest success rates.
Ovarian stimulation (biological mother)
The partner providing the eggs undergoes a controlled hormonal stimulation protocol of 8 to 12 days, closely monitored with advanced ultrasound scans to achieve optimal follicular development.
Egg retrieval & ICSI fertilization
We retrieve the biological mother's eggs through a 20-minute outpatient procedure. They are then fertilized with a selected sample from a certified sperm bank via ICSI microinjection. Embryos develop for 5 days in our EmbryoScope Plus incubator.
Endometrial preparation (gestational mother)
While the embryos develop, the partner who will carry the pregnancy prepares her uterine lining (endometrium) with hormonal medication perfectly synchronized with the laboratory to ensure successful implantation.
Embryo transfer & pregnancy
The blastocyst with the best quality and implantation potential is transferred to the gestational mother's uterus in a quick, painless procedure. We perform the quantitative pregnancy test 10 to 12 days later.
ROPA Method FAQ
Is ROPA legal in Mexico?
Yes. Mexico recognizes same-sex marriage nationwide, and there are no legal restrictions on ROPA or any assisted reproduction technique for same-sex couples. Both partners can be listed on the birth certificate.
Can both partners take turns being the gestational mother?
Absolutely. Many couples do ROPA for their first child with one partner carrying, then switch roles for a second child. This allows both partners to experience pregnancy.
What if one partner is over 35 and the other is under 35?
We typically recommend the younger partner provide the eggs (for optimal quality) and the older partner carry the pregnancy — but this decision is always personal and we support whatever you choose.
